Your First Session

WELCOME! We’re so glad that you’ve decided to move forward with therapy, and we are excited to meet you. Here’s everything you need to know for your first session.

When to arrive

Please arrive 10 minutes early to fill out some light paperwork. If you arrive more than 10 minutes after your scheduled appointment time, we may need to reschedule your session to keep other clients’ appointments on track.

What to bring

  • Photo ID

  • Insurance card

  • A parent or guardian (if you’re under 18)

What to expect

Your first session will look a little different than a regular therapy session. Your therapist will go over his or her credentials and relevant experience, explain confidentiality and its limitations, and answer any other questions you may have about the therapy process and what to expect. Your therapist will ask you to describe why you’re seeking treatment, and he or she will ask you additional questions to get a better understanding of your unique story and needs. You and your therapist will discuss your goals for therapy and come up with a plan for what your time in therapy will look like. Appointments last around 50-60 minutes.

How to pay

Payment is expected at the time of service. We bill to insurance, and we accept cash, credit cards, and debit cards. You can also pay with an FSA or HSA card if you have one. Visit our insurance & payment page for more information.
