Therapy involves resolving the ways in which your thoughts, emotions and sensations create suffering. Sometimes mindfully calming the body changes thought. Sometimes learning to redirect thoughts calms emotions… I form a partnership with each client where we are curious, compassionate and respectful toward what they experience. Good therapy is not like tube socks where one size fits all. I try to provide a “custom fit” using a variety of approaches. In time, we usually find what the client is looking for: it may be peace of mind, a better relationship, or simply accepting who they are.

My Ph.D. program required we learn 5 different schools of psychotherapy, training under a faculty supervisor in each one. During 30 years of practice I have continued to study, but I am very aware that much of what I have to offer comes from having made the usual mistakes that people make and learning from them. We are all trying to learn how to live more fully and I don’t think that process ever ends.

I have been passionately married for more years than most readers have been in the world. I love to kayak on the river, ride my motorcycle touring the west, walk in the woods, read and put thoughts into words.  And I like meeting new people and being useful to them.
